Kresnik in alpha: Whittier, Mind Maps and Threats
One idea of play that I want to explore during alpha play with Kresnik|Kudlak are three keys aspects and how they inform the narrative during play:
- Community
- Mind Maps
- Threats as escalations
The scenario revolves around the small town of Whittier, Alaska in 1992. Where most of the population live in the same condominium, Begich Tower.
The most important part is the members of the Community. Fleshing each of them members of the Community with character descriptions, their quirks, and motivations.
For this scenario there would ideally be two Mind Maps; one for the Master of Ceremonies to spell out the major links to the mystery. The second was devised by the Actors to track Kresnik's progress.
Community Threats were originally intended as a way to create Projects that the Kresnik could work towards. In single session scenarios, I figured these Threats could be used as escalations as the Kresnik progress through their own mind map.
🤝Isolation: the weather worsens, with winds as high as 100km/h, dropping to sub zero celsius.
👊Violence: the army corps has reclaimed Buckner Building over old cold war paranoia.
✊Change: a big new cruise operator is attempting to set foot in Whittier, offering more tourism, more jobs for the town.
💪Natural: Orcas are making coordinated attacks on the boats in Prince William Sound.
🤏Unknown: there are reports of songs on the howling winds. It begins with sounds but over time turns into a tune calling you. Combinations of these aspects through play should create individual Kresnik tales.
